todo/ssds

While I do have a running to-do list (If only there was just one! There are actually quite a few of them, more or less organized in my evernote app.), this is something slightly different. It is a list of ideas, questions, problems and topics that I would like to have an answer/solution to. Sort of “somebody should do something” page. While I might try to tackle some of these at some point myself, I’m putting them out here, just in case somebody else would like to adopt them or knows about somebody else who already has.

image based search in online stores – Suppose I have a photo or a sketch of an item I’m looking for – a T-shirt, a bookcase, … I would like to have an option to upload it to a store website and receive the most similar items in the given store as search results.

character generator – Like a random generator for numbers, I would like to have a random generator for book characters. When you generate random numbers, you want them to have certain properties, e.g. come from a uniform (or some other) distribution. When thinking up some person for a story, I would like him or her to come from a population-weighted distribution – name, occupation, maybe political opinions… without the need to obsess whether the name is too exotic, or the whole person too dull. Too many women, too few disadvantaged people… The data could come from some census and in addition to a simple combination of good random generators, there could be neural network generating “new people”.

replace cars with trees – Take a picture in a city. Have the option to save it without cars. Or perhaps replace the cars with trees and flowers, something green.

Kinder Surprise with Lego pieces inside – instead of the usual stuff

food delivery service using glass/reusable containers – People join in with a fee that covers two sets of containers. Every time they have food delivered, they return clean containers from the last delivery. Participating restaurants use the same types of containers.

reliable affordable cleaning service in Žilina – There is definitely a market for this.

city cleanup auction – A city would place a list of streets/blocks/lawns/areas they want to clean-up (pick up trash, do other stuff) with small prices to each. Anybody, including kids, could sign up for any of them. Once the task is done, the person who signed up receives the payment. If nobody signs up, the city could increase the offered price.

public composting in Slovak cities – Nothing new, there are cities where this works. And there have been some efforts in Žilina, too. But then they died out because there were not enough people to take case of the compost sites. It would be great to restart this. Perhaps even with a twist: having afternoon/evening routes for pickup of food scraps, people could sign up for these to have theirs picked up, larger “professional” composting sites near the city, company to take care of them and sell the resulting soil.

outdoor afterschool “just for fun” sports clubs for kids – Many of the programs are too competition-oriented once kids are past 7-8 years. Finding a sports club that is just for fun, to make the kids sweat and burn off their energy with friends few times a week is almost impossible. It would be ideal if there was something like this outdoor (rain or shine) during the time while the parents are still at work.

language corrector for Slovak language – There exist a few, they are not very smart. Training one using a dnn would help. The work needs to start with a great dataset. This is a very solvable problem, already being tackled in other languages.

problem solving course – Similar to this. Starting with …

data driven education – …

red blood cell classifier – …

removing text from images – …

services better – …

public procurement – …

restapp – …
