The media is largely ignoring the trauma of millions

I often complain about the syndrome known as “both-sidesing” — in which unequal sides are given equal treatment in the press.

Slovenská národná identita? Boľavé a prázdne miesto

A tvoriť víziu optimistickej budúcnosti. Ak toto dokážeme, tak potom môžeme populistov s ľahkým srdcom vyprevadiť do čerta.

Nick Cave: Hopefulness is a warrior emotion

Unlike cynicism, hopefulness is hard-earned, makes demands upon us, and can often feel like the most indefensible and lonely place on Earth. Hopefulness is not a neutral position either. measured AI

Personally, I use Claude to draft code for me, including the code that builds this website, and I don’t use AI assistance to write prose. That decision is about what skills I want to keep sharp. I’m fine with not being about to compose code off the top of my head, but I will not outsource my ability to write to an LLM. Skills are like muscles: use ’em or lose ’em.

Generative AI for Data Visualisation

Different AI tools are designed for different types of tasks, so I wanted to see how some of the most commonly used tools compare to each other when used for data visualisation. I’m going to compare four different generative AI tools – ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, and Gemini. Using the free tier of each tool, I’m going to give them two different datasets with a prompt to create a chart.

NASA citizen science

Through the projects below, sometimes called “citizen science” or “participatory science” projects, volunteers and amateurs have helped make thousands of important scientific discoveries. These 36 projects are open to everyone (no citizenship required).
